Big thanks to last months LC and here's the April LC service. Mak and Sy were the only two in the LC but pulled through to get a service! YAY! It will be at the Military Museum. Please wear closed toed shoes and wear comfortable clothing. Please note that you will get dirty! Lunch will be provided! Have fun and go, go, go serve the community.

POLICY FOR SERVICES: ARRIVING/LEAVING


Deductions of 1 hour:

- Fail to inform NHS that you will not attend.
If you sign up for a service we expect you to be there. If you cannot go, comment on blogspot or tell a NHS cabinet member that you will not make it.

- Arriving later than the time stated.
We understand that issues such as traffic or finding the location of the service may hinder you from arriving on time. This is fine but please try to arrive at the stated time. However, arriving much later is no excuse. If for any reason you cannot arrive at the listed time, please tell a NHS cabinet member your reason. Only certain reasons will be acceptable and if you are caught lying, you will be dismissed from NHS.

- Leaving earlier than the time stated.
You signed up for a service and we expect you to be committed until your shift is over.  Please do not leave unless you must. If for any reason you cannot stay until end of the shift, please tell a NHS cabinet member your reason. Only certain reasons will be acceptable and if you are caught lying, you will be dismissed from NHS.

LA Marathon

LA MARATHON

Date: March 17th, 2013
Time: 8:30AM - 5:00PM (Clothing Check-Out)
Location: Finish - Area, Santa Monica

Be a part of one of the largest running events in the country! You'll have fun, meet great people, and enjoy the thrill of victory without having to break a sweat.

POD storage units from Dodger Stadium will be transported to the Finish Line Festival in Santa Monica. Under the direction of coordinator, Zach Murshedi, volunteers will assist race participants in retrieving their checked in belongings. RUNNERS CANNOT RETRIEVE THEIR OWN BAGS. Organize and consolidate leftover bags for transport back to LAM office.

3. Enter SGHSNHS for the password. The password is in ALL CAPS
4. Click join group after the you searched for our group and have entered the password.
5. You will be directed to another page where you will need to fill out your information.
6. Once you are done entering your information, click "join group" on the bottom of the page and follow directions given,

NHS 2013-2014 Cabinet Elections

2013-2014 NHS Cabinet Elections Step 2 COMPLETE

Step 3 - Speeches
Congratulations to those who completed the Officers Application and Interviews. Now that you have gone through cabinet, your fate will be in the hands of your fellow members. Starting this Friday (March 1st) and ending next Friday (March 8th), NHS Officer Candidates will get a chance to show the rest of the club why they should be the next 2013-2014 NHS Cabinet. Candidates will need to prepare speech that is no longer than 3 minutes and present it during our general meetings for the whole club. At the end of the meeting, members will vote on the spot on a piece of paper cabinet will provide which also acts as their sign ins. Cabinet will then announce our 2013-2014 NHS Cabinet on March 15th, the Friday right before Spring Break.

A Noise Within Service

This will be a fun, fun service everybody! Basically, you will be ushers for a play. You direct people where to sit. But when the play starts you get to watch the whole play while earning hours at the same time! And the plays are amazing and really professional. The theater is a beautiful place! CHINESE AMERICAN MUSEUM

CHINESE AMERICAN MUSEUM 
Lantern Festival 

Date: March 2nd, 2012
Time: Shift 1:  9am-1pm
Shift 2: 1pm-5pm
Shift 3: 5pm-8pm
Location: Chinese American Museum 425 North Los Angeles Street Los Angeles, CA 90012

Each year, Lantern Festival spotlights a Chinese American re-creation of a traditional village street fair featuring brilliant lantern displays, exciting musical, acrobatic and lion dance performances, enriching arts and crafts booths, and to cap off the evening,and to cap off the evening, a spirited glow-in-the-dark silver dragon stage performance to delight our senses!  Event-goers can try their hand at lantern-making, Chinese-opera style face painting, kite-building, Chinese paper-cutting, Origami, Chinese calligraphy, string-knotting, and much more! New program features are added to the event each year to keep the festival fresh and exciting for new and returning visitors.

REMEMBER TO LEAVE YOUR T-SHIRT SIZE! 

Responsibilities/Positions include:

SET UP:  Set up and decorate booths and venue
HOSPITALITY:  Set up, organize and maintain food and refreshments for staff, volunteers and performers
STAGE MANAGEMENT:  Assist staff with the set up and take down of props between stage performances 
PROGRAM RUNNER:  Distribute programs and surveys to event-goers.  Encourage booths and museum attendance
BOOTH COUNTERS:  Count/record booth visitors using a hand-counter
ARTS N’ CRAFTS:  Assist artists/instructors in a variety of activity booths such as lantern-making, kite-making, calligraphy, face painting, origami, photo booth, etc.  
INFO BOOTHS:  Set up and assist at registration tables for volunteers/artists/entertainers/media 
CLEAN UP:  Break down booth and venue decorations and general area clean-up
